KATIE DEITS
Master Photographer, Sculptor, Writer
Artist Katie Deits talks about her passion for her work with interviewer Phyllis Haynes.
"This is the first photograph that I took. It is of my parents, Eloise and Bill Deits, in front of our Airstream travel trailer.
The low camera angle is from a five-year-old's perspective. My work is dedicated to my parents, who instilled in me a love for art, culture, philosophy, poetry, travel, and spirituality. Through their effort and sacrifice, they gave me a good education and exposed me to the world.
They encouraged me to have faith that I could do and be anything that I dreamed."
"After I graduated from college and returned from living abroad, I followed in my father's footsteps and joined him in his photography business. Together, we founded Camera Graphics, Inc., which was a company specializing in commercial, aerial, architectural, and editorial photography, as well as producing collateral material from start to finish. We were partners until he passed on in 1994. The photo at the above is a portrait of Dad and me in 1993 and below is a photo of my mother.

"For almost eight years, I also worked as a special sections editor for The Palm Beach Post doing editing, writing, photography and graphic design. I create fine art and exhibit, lecture and teach. I also work for various clients in a freelance capacity producing photography, writing and graphic design. In 2007, I was honored to be awarded the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Palm Beach County."
